The hike to Vetvika Beach is a challenging yet rewarding 19km long hike. The beach can only be reached by boat or by foot, so hiking it will definetly feel rewarding since you have to earn this destination.
Hiking to Vetvika beach will be a challenging yet rewarding experience. It is one of the prettiest beaches in Norway and reminds of some of the beautiful beaches in Lofoten. The hike is long, so bring enough water and food.
The first section of the hike is on a very easy and wide gravel road. The road brings you almost all the way up the mountain, so you will achieve the majority of the first half of the height meters just on that road. On the way, we met a little curious ermine, jumping along the stone wall (see pictures). At some point, you have to leave the road and take a left turn, passing a DNT hut. From there on, the path starts to be an actual path on a gras / soil underground. A little further, the junction for the circular path comes. On the way to the beach, I definetely recommend taking the left path, since it's descent is down to the beach and so you don't have your back headed to the nice view. The section down to the beach is also the hardest part of the hike, with some bigger boulders and a steep descent making it an intermediate hike. Once at the beach, enjoy your brought snacks and take a swim if its warm enough. For the way back, you can either take the same way back or make it a circular path and with that also a slighty longer hike in total. The circular version leads you trough another little valley, adding some new views.
There are several parking options for this hike.
It is very common to camp on Vetvika Beach. However, we didn't do so since we just camped two times shortly before. It is definetly a very nice setting and recommended tho! Just remember you have to carry all the gear on the hike.
